40 professors graduate from KAB Training of Trainers in Costa Rica March 2012

Within the framework of the Joint United Nations Programme “Desarrollo de la competitividad para la Región Brunca en los sectores de Turismo y Agroindustria, con énfasis en la creación de empleos verdes y decentes para la reducción de la pobreza” (“Development of competitiveness for the Brunca Region in the sectors of Tourism and Agroindustry with an emphasis on the creation of green and decent employment to reduce poverty”), led by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio, MEIC) and the ILO, the 7th session of the Competitiveness Council of the Brunca Region took place on 9 March. In attendance were the President of Costa Rica, Chinchilla; the Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce, Mayi Antillón; the Minister of Agriculture, Gloria Abraham; the Minister of Planning, Laura Alfaro, and other government officials.

During the event, 40 professors from the region graduated from the "training of trainers" programme following the ILO methodology "KAB Know about business" and 8 consultants from Costa Rica were accredited by the ITC-ILO as "trainers of trainers". Students in the Brunca Region will now be able to receive classes in entrepreneurship as part of the development plan for this area of the country.

KAB has been applied in Costa Rica since September 2010, and is a joint initiative of MEIC, the Ministry of Public Education ( and the ILO. The initiative is supported by the ITC-ILO, which carries out the activity of training of trainers. The aim of the programme is to integrate entrepreneurship into the education plans of the Professional Technical Colleges in Secondary Education.

The programme accredits MEP and MEIC consultants as national CODE facilitators for Costa Rica, meaning that they can immediately continue the process of training of trainers, organizing and monitoring the implementation process in order to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and business development.
