In July 2010, the Costa Rican Ministry of Economy requested the ILO's office in San José to have a scoping mission by ITC-ILO to assess the viability of introducing KAB into the country as well as identifying the best strategies based on the country's education system and national priorities.

Upon completion of the mission, it was decided by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Economy and the ILO in Costa Rica thatKAB would be introduced in Professional Technical Schools of Secondary education and for the following steps to be taken until the end of 2011:

1.     Awareness raising

2.     Training of a reduced number of teachers from schools in the Sur, Norte and Antlántica regions and pilot testing in a select number of schools (as well as evaluation of results)

3.     Training and Accreditation of 20 National KAB facilitators

By the end of 2012, the aim would be for the 20 KAB facilitators, to train an estimated 1000 teachers.

Number of teachers trained to date: 77.

Number of Schools reached: 27 different schools in the regions of Sur, Norte and Atlántica
