Entrepreneurship education is becoming increasingly important in China. In the last few years it has been perceived more and more as an effective way of preparing young people to be more enterprising, both in their careers and in their lives, and for their successful transition from school to work.
Since 2006, Chinese university students have benefited from entrepreneurship education based on KAB. In preparation for the first pilot test within universities, the KAB package was adapted and translated into Chinese in 2005 and a key partnership was established between the ILO and the All China Youth Federation (ACYF). Thus, at the start of 2006, the KAB first training workshop was conducted for selected instructors and promoters of entrepreneurship education projects working in higher education. Later, as a result, six universities located in Beijing, Tian Jin and Hei Long Jiang started testing the KAB programme during the first semester of 2006, with the participation of about 620 students.
The evaluation and feedback from the pilot test were very positive and more than 40 additional universities showed interest in implementing KAB. In 2007 and 2008, roughly 20 training workshops were conducted for participants from these universities, resulting in over 874 KAB Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters trained across China.
By the end of December 2009, 1731 facilitators from560 universities or colleges in 27 provinces have been trained through KAB China Program.
It is estimated that entrepreneurship education based on KAB is currently being taught in over 100 universities in 25 provinces across China, reaching an estimated 15,620 students.
The aim of the KAB project in China is to introduce KAB as an elective or compulsory basic entrepreneurship course in all 2.000 universities, training about 80 KAB Key Facilitators who in turn will train 5.600 lecturer and assistant professors as KAB facilitators to deliver the programme to thousands of students every year.
