Uzbekistan - Youth Entrenet

KAB activities began in Uzbekistan in 2004, when a KAB pilot project was launched and the first Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters were trained in a workshop conducted in Tashkent. This event had 15 participants from professional colleges, business schools, other institutions of secondary specialized vocational education & training (SSVET) and non-governmental organizations. The pilot project applied KAB in different modalities and formats into the study curricula in 19 SSVET institutions located in 10 regions around the country. The exercise targeted around 250 students and positive feedback prompted additional training of Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters where the pilot program was the applied in the SSVET institutions to five times more students/trainees.

In 2007, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education issued an order officialising the KAB pilot phase, and approving a list of professional colleges to pilot test KAB. It also determined that the Department of Professional Colleges and the Department of Improvement of Educational Standards and Integration of Modern Teaching Technologies would analyze and combine the KAB programme with an existing entrepreneurship course called “Economics and Basics of Entrepreneurship”. According to the new regulation, the new curriculum to emerge from this adaptation will be submitted for approval by the pilot colleges, who then will be required to adapt the course to meet standard educational plans. To meet this demand another workshop is to take place to train more Facilitators, Trainers and promoters of KAB.

The ILO Sub-regional Office in Moscow has been promoting the KAB programme in Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education. Up to now, it is known that about 45 Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters have been trained to promote or teach KAB, working in 23 SSVET institutions, and reaching over 2,300 students.
